I’m always in awe of people who can make numbers feel like magic. This week, we get to peek into three classrooms where math teachers do just that: give us inspiration to start another year delighting in digits.
I was perusing some Teaching Channel videos this past week, and I found a wonderful back-to-school message from a special
Tch math teacher, Marlo Warburton. Her message about
creating a positive classroom environment reminds us that the most important decoration we’ll put in our classrooms this fall is our passion.
I’d also like to share a couple of math lesson ideas that will help get students quickly engaged in their learning. Both lessons align with the Common Core, so they are very focused on
understanding concepts, not just getting “right answers.”
In Lisa Bologna’s second grade math class, she
uses games to teach almost every concept, reminding us that “play” can help students cement their learning through keen engagement.
And, in Christopher Persaud’s high school math class, his students “win the lottery” as they learn functions. He’s tapped into the power of
real-world scenarios to help students
own their learning.

Don't forget to check out the
Tch Math video library for more videos for your lesson planning. Enjoy!
