More than 97% of all Americans attended public schools. You’d be hard-pressed to find any other civic effort that has that same reach and impact on shaping the future of our nation. If this is true, then it’s incumbent upon all educators to ensure that schools are living up to their potential as a public good.
The good news is, our schools are full of the caring, knowledgeable, thoughtful professionals we need to build the modern schools we need. This is the knowledge that led Chris Lehmann and me to write Building School 2.0: Creating the Schools We Need. Throughout the book we reflect on the experience of building Science Leadership Academy in Philadelphia, PA, as well as what we’ve learned from colleagues and other schools around the world.
