Collaboration. It’s a word used so often that we tend to forget just how complicated collaborating really is. In schools, collaboration occurs when there is a common vision, mutually agreed upon principles, and significant trust among members of a team. School-based teams may engage in collaborative planning or simply work together to solve problems. However, as we learn and grow as educators, changes in our belief systems can present challenges to a collaborative team. Teams like Kristin Gray’s that learn together and allow for and embrace these shifts, understand that this evolution often provides the energy with which the team continues to innovate and create, resulting in continued growth and, ultimately, more positive student outcomes.
