Books for Teacher Professional Development

May 17, 2013 12:47pm

Hello! I'm returning to the classroom this fall (yay!), and I'm hoping to do some reading over the summer. Can anyone recommend some books for professional development? If it helps, this will be my second year teaching middle school. Thank you so much!

      Stef-

It may help to see what initiatives your district currently has in their strategic plan, and then you can read up on those. For example, in my district, all teachers are expected to incorporate principles of Universal Design for Learning. So, if you were here, it would be great to read, "Universal Design for Learning: Practical Applications". We have also read Green's "Lost in School" as a district. If you could do a little background research, you will prepare yourself for the transition to your new district.

      Good luck!
      Katie

Laura Robb has some wonderful books for Middle School. Most of her work is published by Scholastic.
