Coaches - Ways to Use Video?

Feb 14, 2014 12:46pm

Coaches, are you finding interesting new ways to use video to support your teachers?

I just heard an awesome idea to use video to support teachers who are teaching their students to work in groups. The coach uses her iphone to capture 2 minute snippets of student conversation, then they review the conversations later together.

What other ways are you effectively using video?

All nationally board certified teachers have to submit two fifteen minute unedited video clips of classroom instruction and then write papers analyzing the instructional methods used in the lesson. Having 15 minutes allows time to truly analyze patterns in practice. I would suggest this as a valuable activity with any teachers.

What I like about this approach is that it takes on a "real" view about how to look at student work through "collaborative group work", how students use "classroom talk" to engage in learning and the level of discourse that video can capture for a teacher.
