Comparing French and US Economics curriculums

Nov 9, 2013 8:47am

Hi everybody.
I'm a French teacher, teaching in France and currently doing some research about the similarities and differences between the US and French economics curriculum.
I am currently searching for the follonw stuff, any help would be greatly appreciated.
- Do you have a standard (the common core standards?) that each and every teacher in the US has to follow ? Where can it be found concerning specifically economics ?
- What is, for you, in 11th / 12th grade, the top 5 concepts that are the most difficult to grasp for students ?
- What are, for you, in 11th and 12th grade, the top 5 concepts that should be perfectly understood by students ?
Many thanks for your answers. I'll surely have some more questions or issues to share about specific differences or issues that we have to work on, here, in France.
Have a great day

      Dear Pierre,
Here are some answers to your questions:
      1. Each state in the US determines the standards that each teacher within their state must follow. The Common Core standards were adopted by most states but not all of them. You would actually have to go to each state's Department of Education to find out their standards. Here in the US Economics is under the Social Studies umbrella.
