Question Detail

Does anyone have a lesson(s) on teaching self-monitoring noise level in the classroom? During group work my students' volume escalates, and I want them to notice and bring it back down to an acceptable level.

I teach 5th grade and have not been able to get them to self monitor successfully. I teach and model voice levels at the beginning of the year and when we return from winter break. The rest of the time I do a call and response song. I sing "Quiet voices" and clap a pattern tap, tap, tap-tap-tap then they respond by doing the same. It's a kind of reset. It seems to work most of the time.
