      Robin-

You may want to explore all the research on Universal Design for Learning. The framework notes that lessons that are universally designed can challenge students of all variability, including students who are gifted and talented. Start by exploring the engagement guidelines, as they have great strategies for getting kids on boards with lessons across the subject areas.

Using project based learning, or problem based learning provides an opportunity for students to study what is in the curriculum guidelines, but go deeper in their area of interest. To understand the process of, and to teach the kids the skills of how to go deeper I suggest a couple of books by Dr. Richard Cash and Dr. Diane Heacox; Differentiation for Gifted Learners and Advancing Differentiation. To get project ideas look at bie.org, whose goal is to teach how to proficiently execute project and problem based learning. E-pals is a world-wide view of student projects. Projects are on their website, and it encourages communication with students around the world.
