Question Detail

Hello! I am a NEW teacher and I am so confused with the Common Core. Maybe I am making this more difficult than it has to be. I am a Mississippi Studies Teacher and I can do the "content" lesson, but how do I incorporate common core when talking about the various European settlements in Mississippi?

I am a preservice teacher teaching 9th grade economics. I had the same problem early on but I relied heavily on the use of Bloom's Taxonomy to help gear me toward common core objectives in the student's writings for essay and open response questions. In history classes, as well as my economics classes, I have also relied on the use of analyzing primary source documents as well.

Try the Library of Congress lesson plan database. You can look for lessons by State Standard. It's all in line with Common Core. If you use texts & photos from the LOC it works with the students needing to compare multiple media. You'll find it's pretty self fulfilling once you get into it -- been doing it for years!
