It's basically asking you to help student identify text structure. For example, in history, the connections are often cause and effect. In technical procedures, it's sequential order. Others may be compare or contrast or problem/solution. It's identifying the relationship between ideas.

Describe the connection between a series of historical events , scientific ideas, or steps in technical procedures in a text.
Here is an example of a question that was on one of our second grade reading tasks last week...
8. What step of the Scientific Method was Galileo performing in paragraph 4? (RI.3)
a. Ask a question.
b. Make a hypothesis.
c. Do the test.
d. Collect data.
Here, the student is making a connection between the scientific process (what they are learning in Science) and Galileo (a biography that they are reading in ELA)......
