For ELA how about an exercise similar to Mad Libs. For ex: Start out with a sentence stem and the complete the sentence with x. X would be content that they learned last year (ex: proper nouns). Maybe have them complete a writing prompt, but structure it whereas the students will have to replace "open sentence which clearly states the problem" with their own response. It could be a fun activity for the class.
