I teach a preschool inclusion class. A classified three year old in my class is already reading. I have 5 students who are entering kindergarten, whom I know with the right push can start reading. How do I start?

There are definite stages that early childhood students move through when they are first learning to read. The four stages, which are largely agreed upon in the literature, are pre-alphabetic, partial alphabetic, full alphabetic, and consolidated alphabetic. If you examine the research on these stages, you will discover some great instructional strategies to support students at different stages. For example, students who are in the partial alphabetic stage can benefit from sounding out letters as they are reading.
