Question Detail

How do you help teachers to understand the importance of knowing thier standards? The grade level teams only meet once a month making it hard for coaches to have coaching conversations.

I'm a district math coach who rotates between two very large schools and often miss the once a month team meeting due to being at the wrong school on the wrong date.

      I shouldn't be giving advice since I have a question posted myself, but my math colleague and I are in the same boat as you. What I am doing behind the scenes right now (I am literacy, so bear with me.) is taking standards I know are lacking in the curriculum and making a PowerPoint (sorry, not tech savvy either) with the standard and information/examples to support what the standard is asking and resources that teachers can use TODAY in their classroom to encourage them to implement the standard. Rome wasn't built in a day, so I am not planning on doing this weekly so as to not overwhelm them. I hope this helps. :o}

        Thanks Lisa! Using technology is something I need to be more savy in. PowerPoint is something I can do so maybe I'll start there. Using this tool I can show the progressions of standards from grade to grade and maybe show examples of what that should look like. So much to little time!
