As I create my lesson plans, I delineate the learning targets that I hope to reach with my students in a given lesson. These targets are directly linked to the CCSS, and in some ways are the steps leading up to meeting the standard. I have found as well, that the more transparent I am with my students, explicit about the standard we are working on and how the current target gets us closer to meeting that standard, the better my students are at reaching the target.
