Do you continue reading past the difficult word, or do you stop and use context clues to help with difficult vocabulary? Do you go back to the word and discuss after reading the text? Or do you preview the word before you read? Is there a magical answer??

In my 4th grade class I have my students read the passage and highlight vocabulary they dont't understand.( the text is copied so they can highlight). Then they discuss their words with their partner. Then I will call on a student to read a sentence with a word they highlighted and give a meaning to the word. Then I will add to the meaning if needed. This is a commom core technique for informational text.
