I encourage and help my students find books within their A.R. level. Once they are finished with the book I let them use my classroom computer or iPad to take the A.R. quiz to work towards their trimester A.R. goal. I remind the students that the quiz is just for fun and it's not a grade. If they don't pass the quiz, I reassure that it's not a big deal and at least they read and finished the book!
I try to reward students who make their A.R. goals with a small reward. And I make sure that everyone makes their goal the first trimester. I do this by reading aloud A.R. books often and make sure the students take quizzes on books they heard read aloud. For the second and third trimester, I make the students more accountable to achieve their goal and most of them do!
