I taught high school English in Alabama before the common core was implemented, so I am not an expert on it. Now I teach college students who want to become English teachers in Texas. Since I started working with the TEKS, I believe they are very similar to the common core. From my understanding, Texas opted out of the common core and chose to go with their own set of standards the TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills). Here is a link to the website I have been using to learn more about the TEKS - http://tea.texas.gov/index2.aspx?id=6148. Hope it helps answer your question!
