I believe you're teaching students how to use text features to comprehend, or to navigate text. The features you've highlighted can be used to determine main idea, or important vocabulary. Both are Common Core standards and support students' comprehension.
It might be fun for students to create puzzles where they find a title, choose relevant items from the table of contents, and copy/create illustrations/diagrams that point to a single main idea. The main idea can be hidden to be revealed and discussed after other students try to figure it out through analysis of the puzzle.
You might also use headings, TOC and illustrations to make posters for a word wall. Students can search for domain words (academic vocabulary) for different topics and put all the parts together. WORDLE.com is a great tool for highlighting vocabulary.
