According to the "Common Core English Language Arts in a PLC at Work: Leader's Guide," students should receive 90 minutes of reading/writing instruction a day, and students who are struggling should receive an additional 60 minutes a day. Since reading and writing are integrated in the Core, that would be at least 7.5 hours of writing instruction each week starting in grade 3 for all students will additional targeted instruction for five hours for students who are behind.
