I am a 6th grade ELA teacher. This is my 8th year teaching and my 5th year as an ELA 6th grade teacher. I cannot seem to get a curriculum going. Every year I have taught basically the same standards but with different material and at different times in the year. I am one of 3 teachers and we plan together every week, but it is always, "well what are we going to teach next week". When I suggest working on getting organized, one teacher says she will see what someone else has, but nothing ever comes of it. The other lady says, yeah that's a great idea, and again nothing comes of it. I am so tired of the fly by the seat of my pants, STRESSING when it is close to state testing, because I am not comfortable with the level of teaching I do. I want to do better and be more consistent so that there is no doubt the students are learning and I'm not just skimming the surface. Can anyone help me with how to build a consistent in depth curriculum that I can use every year and be confident in my teaching?
