Question Detail

I am entering my classroom a month late from medical leave so my students are already using a small group rotation with the sub however are pounded with worksheets. I was told I would be teaching a 2/3 grade combo class. I purchased the Daily 5 and am sold on the idea however once I sat down to plan and schedule I hit a road block my mind can't get around. Especially because it's a combo class. Also my district prefers I use a basal program. Reading Treasures. Any advice? Schedules I could take a peek at? Videos that you could recommend? I would also like to do Daily 3 for math however our district uses Everyday Math. Still trying to wrap my head around teaching a combo with that. Please any help would be sincerely appreciated.

I've been teaching for 15 years and have always been complimented on my classroom structure and discipline. Daily 5 really changes the way I will do things. Kids on the floor, in corners, ect; I do understand why that may work better. However any advice how to let go of the old and embrace the new?

Start with tweaking the old as much as possible to be the new...I think it's gradual change. This year my 10th year I think I finally realized that I must be extremely positive on the changes the district is asking for teachers to implement and just do them...
