I am not sure that one exists. However, it is a problem that many of us deal with on a daily basis. What is your school policy? Does your school have a “bring your own device” policy?
I attack this issue head on. I explain to the students that it is only appropriate to have a cell phone out during class if I specifically say that they can use it as a timing device, calculator, or research tool. If they have their phone out at any other time, I will take it and turn it into the principal's office. Our school’s policy dictates that a parent must retrieve the phone. Inconveniencing the parent has proven to be a very effective deterrent.
