Question Detail

I am looking to revamp my reading/writing block after feeling like I have had a very unsuccessful year. I am looking for some guidance in what to teach.I have found Louisiana and Long Beach's scope and sequence and this has helped, but I am feeling overwhelmed. My current district curriculum for LAL is a checklist of what needs to be covered along with the standards but doesn't help with HOW to do it. I teach 4th grade. Any help would be MUCH appreciated. I am looking to use Writer's Workshop for writing. Looking for a mentor!

      Hi Danielle-

First of all, what anthology or literature are you using? The Common Core really integrated reading and writing and put more focus on text-based writing using the text as a resource to improve both reading, writing, language, and listening and speaking skills. This doesn't take away from creativity at all, as you can still use readers and writers workshops and incorporate choice into all writing activities. Feel free to contact me to give me more details:

I am also a 4th grade teacher looking for guidance. Our district adopted McGraw Hill this year. How do I integrate the common core with a new reading series? I want to run a writer's workshop but like Danielle would appreciate some guidance.
