Question Detail

I am planning to do a lesson on the book "It's okay to be different" by Todd Parr. Any ideas about how to activate students previous knowledge?

The Star-Bellied Sneeches by Dr. Seuss is a cute one to begin to talk about being different vs. trying to be like everyone else.

How about having students come up with ideas about how they are the same and how they are different from people in their family? Same/different eye color, hair, heights, etc. to start a discussion about how people can be the same in the some ways but also be different in other ways.
