Question Detail

I got my degree in elementary education 30 years ago. I ended up joining the business world with my family instead of teaching. I've since sold the business, and am considering a teaching job in Florida. I would appreciate advice on how best to re-approach the field of teaching. I'm hoping for suggestions on resources to refresh me on curriculum planning, IEP's, and really anything you think would be helpful information.

      Hi Karen,

Welcome back! I would start by observing a local classroom and working with an educator. Do you have an avenue which to gain access to local school or a church (Sunday School)? Perhaps you could even volunteer through your local school board? In Ohio, I believe that all you need is a college degree, board approval and a background check to substitute teach. Then you could get paid for on the job training. Once inside, you could not only ask all kinds of questions, but also gain first hand experience. Plus, we will always be here to answer questions along the way. Good luck!
