Question Detail

I'm in Houston. My school has pushed back the start date two weeks. This is time we can't have back. I teach 2nd grade math and the first unit is numeration. Place Value, number lines, working in the hundreds, greater than and less than. Do I try and cut out some of the time I was going to spend in this unit and spiral the learning in or do I go forward as if we still have that time to teach the material?Jenn

These days will not be added back later in the school year? If not, then I think cutting some of time and spiraling back is your best option, and/or combining ideas into one lessen (greater than/less than combined with working in hundreds or place value for example).

Good luck and I am so sorry for everything your city has gone through.

Numeration is the heart of math. I don't think it's wise to cut out these topics, but you may be able to move more quickly through them depending on your students' previous experiences. These topics can be integrated with the computation of two-digit numbers and number lines can align in measurement.
