Question Detail

I teach an advanced 5th grade math group of 28 students. I would like to do an end of the year project allowing them to choose what to do but to make sure they incorporate science and math in it. Does anyone have any suggestions?

When I create choice assignments, I often provide a standard (you could provide them with a math standard and one of the science ELA standards simultaneously. They start in 6th grade but if you have an advanced group the standard would be accessible.) Once you have the standards, think about creative options for students to demonstrate understanding of the standard. Here is an example of prompts I created in ELA.

Clearly there would be a difference in your assignment, but it gives you a general idea of the types of options. You could even add another option, "Choose your own assessment," to really have them push the bar.
