Question Detail

I work for a non-profit that has developed award-winning, garden-based science curriculum. We have gone through and highlighted Common Core ELA and Math standards reinforced by each lesson. I'm just looking for the right language to explain this. I am not sure that we can say it is standards-aligned, because the curric was written before the standards. But the lessons do provide excellent opportunities to apply and use various math and ELA standards. Any suggestions?

Hi Whitney! That sounds like an incredible resource. You and your team might try using one of these tools to evaluate your resources: http://www.achievethecore.org/leadership-tools-common-core/aligning-materials/materials-evaluation-toolkit/ (It seems like the Instructional Materials Evaluation Tool might be an especially great fit.) Once you've gone through, you may want to highlight specific aspects of the curriculum that address the Standards and the Shifts they require, think about which parts might be tweaked, and suggest activities or strategies for supplementing this curriculum if it's missing anything crucial. Good luck!
