Question Detail

I would like your opinion on the best practice for video taping teachers to improve instruction. Should I let the teachers tape their lesson or should I tape their lesson. Maybe I should do both what do you think?

I think both would be very interesting and helpful to watch. Taping themselves, teachers may be more relaxed and themselves. But having you do it might give a different perspective. Either way, videotaping a lesson is a such a great tool for growth as a teacher!

If you can come in and do the set-up (a tripod?) and begin the taping before leaving, the teacher might feel more comfortable. Conversely, I have really found it helpful to watch students at work during independent work time/conversations with peers as valuable insight into their learning. This can be accomplished when another adult is walking around and capturing those moments.
