increasing student to student interaction in discussions

In many classroom discussions the teacher asks a question, a student answers the question, and the teacher provides feedback on the response. What strategies work for increasing the level of interaction between students so the discussion is more student driven and inquiry oriented?

      Beth shared some good advice. One suggestion I would make is more about physical space in your room. You might be surprised how much the arrangement of desks to allow for students to make eye contact with each other will improve the flow of discussion among students.
