You Be The Chemist Essential Elements℠ is a professional development program created by the Chemical Educational Foundation® (CEF) to assist K-8 educators – our “essential elements” in education – in teaching chemistry concepts through hands-on learning and connecting those concepts to students’ everyday lives.

Essential Elements is based on the 5E constructivist learning cycle approach, which allows students to build their own understanding of new concepts from old ideas and their own experiences. During an Essential Elements workshop, an instructor will lead educators through a 5E learning cycle utilizing lessons from CEF’s Activity Guides and educators will have time to collaborate and plan their own activities. The workshop is FREE and CEF will provide all of the materials, including a flash drive loaded with 50+ simple and fun activities for educators.

Email Ariel Simons at asimons@chemed.org to schedule a workshop, or fill out our online Inquiry Form (http://www.chemed.org).

Hi Ariel - thanks for sharing. I was wondering if you offer workshops to assist 9-12th teachers as well?

At CEF we focus on K-8 educators and learners, though any educator is welcome to attend our workshop! If we know in advance we can try to adjust the workshop to fit the needs and interests of our educators.
