I think that it is best to give students a productive struggle. From time to time, that may mean that the students could use the discovery process of learning or investigation in order to learn about the content. As a teacher, feel free to mix it up and do things differently from time to time. You may find that the students appreciate it and you might be pleasantly surprised if the students know more than you thought they knew on the material.
