You'll be busy! I would start by examining the Core for both K and grade 1 and begin to find the commonalities, so you can start each day together. Then you can split the kids up into stations where you have grade 1 students focus more on writing and reading while K students practice basic skills like rainbow writing. If you have students who are advanced, they can choose to work with the older students, while grade 1 students who need RTI can work with the K students. If you have a teacher's aide that would be much easier to do. You can incorporate principles of UDL by allowing students to choose the activities that are best for them.
Yes I am teaching a 1-2 combo and would appreciate some advice on how to have them independenlty working in centers.
