Mentoring new teachers?

Nov 10, 2014 9:10am

With so many new initiatives coming from the district & state for example: rigorous curriculum design, standards based grading, thinking strategies, NGSS, cooperative learning structures, EdTech & a new professional evaluation system for teachers; just to name a few, how do we as coaches help new teachers to prioritize their learning without getting overwhelmed and burnt out their first few years?

I would sit down with your teachers 1x1 or in a group and ask them to think of 2-3 things that they want to focus on improving this year. Then you can help them place those priorities within some of these initiatives. This might help teachers feel invested in the process and less overwhelmed.
