Our team of 5th and 6th grade E.L.A. and social studies teachers have been reevaluating what E.L.A. standards should be powered, on our summative assessments. Since Iowa has create I.C.C (add additional standards) we now have gone from powering several Common Core standards to just our Iowa Common Core: apply a full range of comprehension strategies.... How are other states and/or teachers dealing with this pendulum around 'powering' standards? I found value in Sara Wessling's latest webinar focused on bundling standards. I am concerned that students will continue to not have the 4th grade standards need to move to 5th grade, if we just state that we 'teach' those that are not powered. Currently I have a large chunk of students with a very week writing and vocabulary understanding.
