Certainly estimation can be a good way to introduce this topic. Also visual aids can help students figure out this concept and which number they are closer to (for example, shaded pizzas, or a set of 10 boxes where 5.3 of them are colored in, and you can discuss is this closer to 5 or 6 filled boxes). Money examples are also a useful too.

Thank you for your help. I used a money example. I gave them an example about going to the grocery store
