salam.I'm a new english teacher and i need some tips to teacher pupils english for the first time knowing that english is their second foreing language after french chokran.

      Do you have set course books or curriculum that you are using? I am teaching English to Moroccan students from child to adult, so a very similar situation to you, and I find that keeping it light and fun is very useful. I incorporate a lot of games, songs, videos, and group work. I also build their confidence by showing them all of the French-English cognates that they do already know. Good luck!

        Hi Selma, congratulations. I had been a teacher of English in India for 37 years. Just remember one thing you teach the language to the children and not the content of any lesson or poem. You should be having a set of text books which are graded in 'patterns of language' (these are set to a situation) and 'vocabulary'. Usually in the first grade it has to be 'describing' (eg: This is my ball. It is red). Make children master them.

          I am assuming that this is an English introductory class. First of all, you should create an organized syllabus that states what chapter/pages will you be teaching each day. Make sure that you fully understand that day's lesson before you teach it. Use a power point presentation if you have technology. If not, be sure to have a great lecture and practice activities, written and oral, to keep the students active. Also, since they are learning a second language you need to have them participate orally. I teach Spanish to English speakers so I always start with the alphabet and pronunciation. Then, I teach them basic greetings like "Hello, my name is..." "How are you? I'm fine, thanks." Afterwards, you begin to build the grammar from the simplest to the most complex. Start with articles, nouns, and the present-tense verb "to be". Then you can start adding other verbs and verb-tenses (present progressive), adjectives, adverbs, and prepositions. You won't add past tense or future tense of verbs until the end of the first semester. The past tense is taught about three weeks before final exams. The reason for this is that the second semester starts with a review of first semester content and then begins detailed lessons for past and future tenses. Hope this helps.
