Creating posters, art objects, or technology projects like a newscasts, PowerPoint/Google Slides/Prezis, Scratch coding games related to your teaching topics, and websites (i.e. free Google Sites, Weebly, etc.) have all been engaging for my 6th graders. Those project-based learning opportunities have been invaluable!

Anything art related is a great way to engage students! They could make books (using book binding techniques), re-write stories, or create dramatic re-enactments (including making costumes/sets).

Field trips to the museum is of great help especially with History.Invite speakers that are part of any historical events.
Creating a timeline is also nice.
Costume parade if it involves cultures of the world.
Add music to that as well.
Give them assignment during their breaks and ensure that they work with their parents to complete it.
