How do you make social studies fifth graders who don't like to read?

      I learnt that first the teacher has to be a reader in full. News paper cuttings are very useful for social studies, because they contain related material. we have to connect their Soc Stds topic to the one in the news. Throw interesting, curious questions from the news that will kindle children to refer the paper as well their books.
      Make this habit grow in them.

        As Mr. Laurent had said, getting them to read about current events is a great way because the student needs to find connections between the now and through history. Another way might be to try to tap to their sense of interest and get them to connect it to some standard in SS through reading. The sky is the limit!
