I LOVE Pinterest for elementary science activities: https://www.pinterest.com/explore/solid-liquid-gas/
With NGSS the focus is different for 2nd and 5th grade. Which grade level are you teaching? In 2nd grade, I embed the idea of solids, liquids and gases in the many experiments we do with separating materials such as gravel, sand and clay. We also create clay and sand sculptures and when the sculptures dry out..we discuss where did the water go?
In 5th grade, I have the students focus more on particle motion. We create a box of matter where the students are the particles and they have to demonstrate their movement based on the state of matter. Once they get it down, I mix up the states of matter~gas in a liquid such as a soda can, a rock in a jar of water, etc. and they have to act it out.
