Question Detail

Teacher Professional Development in Museums

May 3, 2013 9:18am

I am a museum educator and I am curious to learn: are teachers interested in attending professional development trainings at museums? If so, what is the motivation to attend? What content, discussions, activities, etc. to take place at the museum would interest teachers for their personal professional development and classroom teaching needs? Thanks for your input!

I would not think the setting is as critical as the objectives and goals that you have for the meeting. I woulds think libraries might be better suited, but, any location would be fine as long as you conducted professional meetings. Are you looking for distractions or a serious place to hold a meeting. I would think that museums are great places for students, but for adults, the location is not nearly important as the material on the agenda to be discussed.

It's like an Annual Conference: it doesn't matter if it is in Vegas or New York, as long as there is real learning and actual development, then that is all that matters. On the other hand, if you just want to go and have fun, then....
