I want to know what reading materials other primary teachers enjoy covering with students. Do you like to use themes?

We haven't really been able to teach thematically because we are a Program Improvement year 5 school and have to teach the way we are told. That said, I wish we did! But, we start the year for our third graders with Stink. It's funny and great for idioms and letter writing because he is trying to write letters to companies to get free items. This leads to great discussion about his character.
I hope that helps a bit. I know it's not much, but we are pretty limited in what we can do. I would love to hear what you do!

Who is Stink? Is it Third Grade Stinks?

Jamie, Stink is by Megan McDonald. He is Judy Moody's brother (another of her book characters). There are multiple books about him. We read Stink and the Incredible Super Galactic Jawbreaker. Sorry I didn't post it last time. I went to my class yesterday and looked it up!

Stink is a great book. As a theme, I would include a discussion on appropriate behavior, friendship, and cooperation.
