Question Detail

What are your thoughts about Blended Learning (Personalized Learning)? Is anyone doing this?

Jan 26, 2014 6:19am

Our school system is headed in the direction of more learning labs to drive some of the curriculum with teachers becoming the facilitators with small group instruction and support. I want to know the good, the bad, and the ugly if anyone has experienced this. Thanks.

      Karen-

It sounds a lot like Universal Design for Learning, where student choice is encouraged when working toward standards. I'm not familiar with the term, "blended learning" but the idea of teacher as a facilitator is aligned closely with UDL. If that's the case, then it's a framework that is amazingly powerful for students and definitely increases achievement. You can view research on the UDL framework, especially the research on student choice here: http://www.udlcenter.org/research/researchevidence/

      Good luck!
