Question Detail

What is the most beneficial part of the teacher observation? Do you feel that it improves your practice?

I am wondering how many teachers feel that the observation process is beneficial to improving their teaching practice. Many administrators have to do observations as part of the evaluation cycle. Are pre-observations conducting? Do teachers present a problem of practice? Is there collaboration? How many evaluations are directly tied to students' performance on a summative assessment regardless of the observation?

At my school we have a pre-observation meeting the week (or a few days) before the in class observation. At this meeting we discuss the lesson that will be taught. I also ask to have certain elements of the lesson or certain students observed by the administrator. This helps make the in class observation the most beneficial to me.
