What strategies do your students use to organize elementary writing projects?
I teach elementary and our writing time is a mix between projects I give students and projects they have "open." Open projects might be older pieces they want to develop more, or projects they come up with themselves. During a normal week, they work on the given project, then can choose a project to develop more when they are finished with the given project. They struggle to keep track of projects (keeping the prewriting with the project,remembering where they are in the writing process, knowing which project we are currently on, etc) and it is turning into a management nightmare and is frustrating for both the students and me. Please share ways that you have successfully used to organize student writing projects. Thank you!
