What suggestions do you have regarding special education students and the CCSS?

The standards seem quite overwhelming for my 8th graders who read 3 or 4 years below grade level. I am seeking tips and advice. I teach ELA and History.

Universal Design for Learning all the way. It allows teachers to create scaffolds that make rigorous standards accessible for all students. Check out some CCSS lessons that are UDL designed at http://udlexchange.cast.org/home

I have used UDL with my inclusion class for years, and they are able to work toward CCSS.

      Hope this helps!
