I am looking for suggestions as to how to plan a curriculum for the whole year? How do you begin? What tips have you found to be effective? Thank you for your help.

      Jenn-

I always start with the standards. At the beginning of the year, I examine the Common Core standards and set up a schedule so I can spiral through all of the standards throughout the year. Once I know which standards I want to teach, I can begin to design curriculum that allows students to show proficiency with each standard. I use Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles to plan my lessons and I also share my standards with students at the beginning and end of each week to insure that my curriculum actually helped them to meet the intended standard. Although I have a loose outline for the year, I plan very specifically a month in advance.
