Multiplication Number Talk: Fourth and Fifth Grade
Grades 4-5 / Math / Tch DIY
Math.4.NBT.B.5

Number Talks encourage students to think flexibly about the operations and their properties as they solve problems mentally.

It is so important to learn different strategies to solve a problem. I loved how the Ss could name the strategies...I try to encourage this in my 3rd grade classroom. Multiplication is tough for some at this age, however, once they learn the different stategies they are not as intimidated! Great video!!! Awesome teacher & students!

I loved this video and how the teacher encouraged the students to give her more strategies and explain themselves.I will definitely be doing this with my class.

I really liked how the teacher asked the students to write their favorite strategy in their journals. I hope to use this in my future classroom. Great job!

This number talk was very interesting. The students came up with several strategies on how to get the product. I think it is good to know different strategies for getting the answer to math problems. Then you can choose the best solution for you to use. I have done this in my groups. Most students like the traditional way o multiplication while some prefer other methods. It is smart to know several strategies. Great work.
